To globally raise the reputation of members from enterprises and startup teams, National Yang-Ming University GLORIA has headed its way to the BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition hand-in-hand with the Laurel Enterprises Corporation, the leader of the frozen foods industry in Taiwan. They were accompanied by Professor Chih-Chieh Yang's and Professor Jin-Wu Tsai's teams of the Institute of Brain Science, National Yang-Ming University. They have made a grand display of the applications of the two most topical and representative themes, "Nutritious Foods" and "AI For Medical" at the Theme Pavilion for National Yang-Ming University, successfully manifesting the link between industry, academia, and medicine, and the research achievements.

Laurel Enterprises Corporation has started a 5-year industry-academia cooperation project with National Yang-Ming University from 2018 and established "Laurel's Nutrition and Health Lab, National Yang-Ming University." The goal is to expand into a new area - health and nutrition. These two teams' collaborative research and development product "Delicious and Powerlifting Soup," designed for elderlies with sarcopenia, was first made public at the 2019 BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition, which received critical acclaim. Following this success, the teams continued to promote new nutritious food products that were nutritious, delicious, and convenient at the 2020 BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition. Free samples were available at the booth, which attracted an endless stream of people to make inquiries. People on-site paid great attention to these products and showed enthusiastic responses.

The ever-improving development in biotechnology has made AI for Medical eHealth technologies more and more mature. Professor Jin-Wu Tsai, Institute of Brain Science of National Yang-Ming University, has developed screening tests that identify neurodevelopmental disorder-associated genes and techniques that perform image analysis of neuronal degeneration and brain cell inflammation. Professor Tsai performs algorithm analysis for two-photon imaging through deep learning AI to analyze dendritic spines of neurons with accuracy. He has also classified different types of dendritic spines to establish indicators for neuronal degeneration detection. Professor Chih-Chieh Yang, Institute of Brain Science of National Yang-Ming University, has developed a web-based diagnostic system for assessing psychiatric disorders. He conducts a clinical analysis of gray matter and white matter imaging through an explainable deep neural network classifier to determine a diagnosis of schizophrenia and go a step further in visualizing the locations of structural brain abnormalities in patients with schizophrenia.
Presenters were giving speeches on the GLORIA of the Ministry of Science and Technology presentation stage. GLORIA of National Yang-Ming University presented on the topic of "AI for Medical" overall. All the seats were occupied, and the audience showed enthusiasm in interacting with the presenters. (From left to right: Yu-Chun Chen, Jhih-Jie Yang, Ying-Hui Lai, and Si-Yu Jhang.)
GLORIA of the Ministry of Science and Technology has specially planned the presentation stage, allowing each university to showcase its characteristics. The topic presented by GLORIA of National Yang-Ming University overall was AI for Medical. Professor Yu-Chun Chen was the first presenter. He is a professor of the Institute of Hospital and Health Care Administration, and also a physician working at the Department of Family Medicine of Taipei Veterans General Hospital. His speech was on the topic of "Feeling relieved only after understanding your medications! AigiA app increasing the safe use of medications at home." Professor Yu-Chun Chen set out from the perspective of a family physician and integrated preventive medicine and big data analytic technologies. He has performed long-term health risk assessment and management with an information platform, adding value to the medical care system. The second presenter was Professor Chih-Chieh Yang of the Institute of Brain Science, who is also a psychiatrist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. His presentation was on the topic of "Smart Brain Imaging Assessment Platform," which has integrated psychiatry, neuroscience, and biomedical signal analyses, providing a more scientific platform for schizophrenia validation. Professor Ying-Hui Lai, Department of BioMedical Engineering, gave a speech on the topic of "A noise reduction system design for cochlear implants with context-awareness." This assistive design, based on speech and hearing science, combines biomedical signal processing and AI technologies to optimize hearing and communication. The final presenter was Si-Yu Jhang, the dietitian specialist of the Laurel Nutrilab, who shared "Fifty Years of Laurel, an Old Store with New Ideas" with the audience. One of the new ideas was the "Delicious and Powerlifting Soup" designed for the mature age generation. The soup, with increased dietary protein ratio, has been clinically proven to efficiently improve the mature age generation's muscle strength and muscle mass, and consequently, their body conditions.
Yang-Ming GLORIA not only showcased its capabilities built from the industry-academia links and its academic and research strengths at the exhibition but also increased its chances of international connections. Through the One-on-One Partnering platform provided at the exhibition, Yang-Ming GLORIA has arranged several opportunities for matching up to global companies. There were over 250 industrial, political, academic, research, and medical attendees who have visited Yang-Ming GLORIA's booth during the exhibition period. Yang-Ming GLORIA has also had over 24 internet matching sessions, at least five on-site conference matching sessions, and over 11 video conferences.
The Center for Academia and Industry Collaboration of National Yang-Ming University and the Global Research & Industry Alliance have indeed combined academia and industry. Not only have they made the latest biomedical research findings public but also showcased their strengths and increased the chances of technological match cooperation. They have genuinely accomplished the goal of liaising and cooperating with the industry, government, academic institutions, and medical institutions. It is expected that there will be more opportunities for successful technology matching to spark up new cooperation, creating new milestones for the biotechnology industry.
The National Yang-Ming University theme pavilion exhibition was successful. A group photo was taken for all the participants.
